In other words, it involves capture, preservation, analysis and presentation of network traffic. This speak will present the principle, knowledge and tools that are needed in order to adopt and apply the ideal practices of network-based forensics. We will present how network-forensics can complement host-based forensics for effective investigations of digital personal crime. In this work session, we will introduce nearly all the latest open source network forensics tools that are currently acquirable and its offerings. A crime scene investigation-like apparoach will be applied, we will show how a forensic investigator can extract evidence from packet capture, create network event timeline, reconstruct and reassemble network sessions, examine network flow and discover hidden communication channels. The conference began at 12.00pm and concluded at 14:30pm. Gary Leong, Deputy Head of the Anti-Corruption, Proceeds of Crime and Specialist Cases Unit in the Serious Fraud Office (UK), spoke at the IIEA on the fight against corruption in the EU and at the international level from a UK perspective; Rob Wainwright, newly appointed Director of Europol, spoke on Europol’s role in the fight against organised crime, fraud and money laundering in the Europe; and Det. Chief Superintendent Pat Byrne, newly appointed Chief Agency Officer of the Criminal Assets Bureau, Ireland, discussed the Irish appearance on the future for European law enforcement agencies in the fight against organised crime. The Institute will be delighted to hear these speakers’ comments on the fight against serious crime as they are of particular benefit to our continuing research on Justice and Home Affairs Policy.
